Kiba Point is a totally exclusive little retreat in the heart of Selous’ game-rich areas along the banks of the Rufiji River. Richard Bonham discovered this region as he led a portered walking safari through the Selous in the 80’s. Ten years later, this western region of the park was the place that capitvated him enough to build a camp.
Kiba Point continues this legacy of exploration with days spent in search of the hidden gems that define this stunning park and region of the Selous. Sometimes, the best way to see game is to let it come to you. Breakfast on a sand bank in Stigler’s Gorge watching the elusive monkey-hunting crowned eagles and listening to the cries of Hyraxes as you dangle a hook in the water is one way to do so.
Activities include game drives, fly camping, walking safaris, fishing, and boating. Fly camping and walking are available for guests ages 12 and up. Kiba Point has its own team of guides and staff, all of whom can help plan your activities. Head out either on foot, by boat, fishing, or by 4×4 open-sided game vehicle.
Operated completely independently from its upstream neighbor, Sand River Selous, this is the perfect getaway for groups and families. The camp features four open-fronted rooms, deluxe bathrooms with flush toilets, indoor and outdoor showers with hot and cold water, a private plunge pool as well as a large pool on the deck of the main tent. Dining times are therefore completely flexible as are activities.
The rooms are completely open in the front (with heafy netting that can be closed at night should you wish), which makes for a unique proximity to the sights and sounds of the bush. Raised on platforms overlooking the river, the open tents are completely safe.
