Tanzania Safari Itineraries
The Wild Source specializes in custom itineraries crafted to best fit the desires and dreams of each individual client, thus we do not offer set itineraries but rather work with you to design your ideal safari. We often do receive requests to see sample itineraries that can give an idea of some of the dynamic options available and due to this interest we feature one custom crafted itinerary each month in our newsletter and now list them here on the website as well.
Group Trips Departing Soon
Big Cats & the Migration
Current Departure Dates: August 2017
This is the opportunity of a lifetime to go on safari with The Wild Source’s unbeatable father and son guiding team of Deo and Fadhil Magoye. These guides have an unrivaled passion for the wilds of Tanzania, and have the skills and knowledge to match. The knowledge of big cats and overall wildlife behavior between these guides is astounding and they are ready to share it all with their eight guests on this safari.
This safari has been custom designed to provide the classic East Africa safari experience – staying under canvas and traversing wide open plains teeming with animals in amazing quantities. The trip is focused on having the highest quality wildlife viewing, with top guiding and time to view the fascinating behavior of animals.
This is a serious game viewing safari and the daily schedule will be completely tailored around making the most of our time in the bush. Unlike most safaris that rush around to see many parks here we focus simply on the most extraordinary game viewing, by combining two amazing areas within the Serengeti ecosystem along with a visit to iconic Ngorongoro Crater and Manyara Private Conservancy for night drives and walking.
We include large and remote areas where we can off-road drive and have supreme wilderness experiences away from others. This is a one-of-a-kind safari!
Big Cat Research Week
Current Departure Dates: Multiple times each year
This is your chance to go out with The Wild Source big cat research team for a week (8 days/7 nights) in the field surveying and observing big cats. We will be able to include up to eight guests who will be split between two vehicles. Each vehicle is captained by one of our remarkable safari guides and joined by one of our wildlife biologists. Our mission is to find as many individual big cats as possible, but just as critical spend significant time with each individual found. We will be looking for all three big cat species – lion, leopard and cheetah. For sure we will enjoy the full diversity of wildlife and take some moments to enjoy the great migration, elephants, giraffe, etc. and jump at the chance to view rarely sighted animals like honey badgers or smaller cats but we will have a very serious focus on finding and staying with the big cats. We start in the remote eastern portion of the Central Serengeti, staying near the Namiri Plains that were closed for nearly 20 years as a cheetah sanctuary area. This region is also very productive for lions and leopards that utilize the stunning granite rock outcroppings (kopjes). Next we move to the Northern Serengeti, an area that is strong with fit big cats that have been thriving with the great migration in the area for many months.
Our research team will explain to you what data we collect, how we identify individuals, any history we know on the individual cats that we find and interpret the behavior we are able to observe. Your presence on the safari helps us fund our research and our important initiative of building local capacity by employing native Tanzanian wildlife biologists.
Upcoming Departure Dates
Tanzania Frontier Luxury Safari
This safari is the ultimate trip for those who truly want to get away from it all. Your safari begins with a visit to the lesser known Ruaha National Park, containing big herds of buffalo, large prides of lions, and exceptional concentrations of elephant. Enjoy great opportunities to see leopard, cheetah, three hyena species, and several different antelope species.
Next, you travel to the even more secluded Katavi National Park. Enjoy a Serengeti-type wildlife experience without the Serengeti hustle and bustle of competing game vehicles. In other words, experience the bush as those who first visited Africa, two centuries ago. Large numbers of wildlife await you and even some of the shier species of large antelope will show curiosity at your presence.
Finally, you will partake in one of the continent’s greatest wildlife experiences; a trek among chimpanzees in the beautiful and extremely remote, Mahale National Park. In addition to spending time within close proximity to our closest living wild relative, take advantage of the diversity of life that is typical of a jungle environment.
